We have recently seen an increase in the popularity of festivals during the summer months – music festivals, dance festivals, walking festivals and hot air balloon festivals to name but a few.  These give like-minded people the opportunity of gathering together to participate n something they enjoy, especially if the weather is kind.  This month brings the Christian festival The One Event, an opportunity for Christians to gather together at the Lincolnshire Showground and celebrate the good news of Jesus, and also the Annual Church Barbeque where we will be getting together to enjoy each other’s company.  In the Bible the letter to the Hebrews says “and let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the day approaching”.  The people are encouraged to keep on meeting together.  It’s good to get together with people who have a common aim, whether in a social setting or a church setting, so that we may encourage each other, build each other up in the faith, share one another’s burdens celebrate each other’s triumphs, which is what the apostle Paul tells the church in Thessalonia – “Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing ……….encourage the disheartened, help the weak, be patient with everyone”.  Paul frequently uses the word “together” and in the words of a much-publicised campaign we really are “Better Together”.
