At the recent Kids’ Club, we have been playing a game called the Holiday Suitcase where a case is packed with holiday essentials. During this month people will be packing suitcases for their holidays, trying to cram in everything they think they will need, much of which is often taken home unused.

As we go through life, we often try to fit in as much as we can and often don’t accomplish everything we set out to do. We can end up feeling guilty and selfish or worse still, feeling like a failure because everything on the “to do” list didn’t get done. One time the disciples told Jesus all that they had done, but because so many people were coming and going they did not even get time to eat, so Jesus said to them “come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest”. Jesus understood that if you don’t take a break, you’ll break, so don’t allow the stuff that’s still undone to undo you. Strive for balance, don’t become addicted to what you enjoy, otherwise, it will take over. Finally, take time for the people who matter – busyness is a destroyer of relationships. All the success in the world cannot compensate for the joy of your family and loved ones and spending time with them. Have a happy holiday and enjoy spending time relaxing with family!
