Here we are again at the start of another new year, a year full of hope and promise, a blank canvas to paint our story on, a year stretching out in front of us full of the unknown. This is the time of year when many people decide to make a new start because many people wish they could change their lives or do things differently if only they had a second chance. Some make New Year resolutions, that they hope will help them do this, maybe to stop smoking or drinking, to start eating sensibly or to be a better person.

Unfortunately, most resolutions are broken before the end of January, because the truth is that we cannot do anything without God’s help. Yet there is hope and God is the one who gives us that second chance. However messed up our lives are, even if we think we are beyond help, the Bible tells us that God loved the world so much that He sent Jesus to be our Saviour.

None of us can tell what the year ahead holds; it may be happiness or it may be that we have to face the storms of life, but what we can be sure of is that whatever is in store for us, Jesus is there for us. He wants to be our Saviour and our friend. If you are determined to make a New Year resolution, let it be to decide to get to know Jesus for yourself, ask Him to help you and see the difference He can make in your life.

Let’s make 2016 a year of new beginnings!
