The first Sunday of this month is Pentecost Sunday and we have set aside the month of June as the month of the Holy Spirit. Everyone needs a friend, someone to help them, to guide them and the disciples did not want Jesus to leave them as he had been their guide and teacher, so Jesus promised his disciples that the Holy Spirit would come. Just before he was taken up into heaven Jesus said to his disciples “You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
The Holy Spirit changed fearful men, Peter who denied knowing Jesus, Thomas who doubted the resurrection, and the other disciples into men full of boldness and confidence in God. The Holy Spirit also changed Saul of Tarsus, a man who hated followers of Jesus so much that he persecuted them, and drew him to trust Jesus changing his life so that he became one of the greatest missionaries that ever lived, the apostle Paul.
The Holy Spirit is at work all around the earth. Why not ask God to fill you with the Holy Spirit during this month of June?
