Over the past few Sundays, we have been looking at new beginnings in various aspects of our lives. We are now well into Springtime; a time of new beginnings; the days are getting longer, the trees are full of fat buds ready to burst into blossom, flowers are opening up and lambs run in the fields; all signs of new life.

Often we wish we could have a new beginning; a chance to do things differently, to start our lives over again and not make the mistakes of the past.  We can read in the Bible of people who were given a new start by Jesus – Zacchaeus was a tax collector who cheated people and obtained more money from them than he should have but after meeting Jesus he mended his ways, and when we accept Jesus into our lives He gives us a second chance.  The Bible says “If anyone is in Christ the new creation has come: the old has gone, the new is here!”  when we allow Jesus to take control we can live a new life, a life that is pleasing to Him, doing things God’s way and not our own way, and that’s not all!  Jesus said, “whoever lives and believes in me will never die.”  That doesn’t mean that our mortal bodies will never die, but that if we believe in Jesus He will give us everlasting life in heaven when we do die, but that’s still not all!  Everlasting life begins the moment we say “yes” to Jesus, the moment we choose to turn from our old ways, accept the new beginning that Jesus offers, and live a life that is pleasing to Him.  Why not try it for yourself and see the difference God can make in your life?
