With the beginning of November, the nights are starting to draw in, days are getting shorter. The weather often seems miserable, drizzly and foggy, yet there is something to look forward to. Christmas preparations seem to begin earlier and earlier each year. Shops begin to put up window trimmings, there are late night shopping sessions with the switching on of Christmas lights and firework displays, Christmas markets, Santa’s grottos – everything designed to give us hope in what can be a dreary month as we anticipate the excitement that we are building up to.
Often our lives can seem grey and miserable, stretching before us, the same routine day after day, but yet there is hope. The Bible tells us in Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future”.
In the run-up to Christmas, let’s not forget that as wonderful as all the events, activities and preparations are, Christmas is all about Jesus. God sent Jesus to be the Saviour of the world, to give us hope.
Sometimes, after all the preparations, Christmas Day itself can be a disappointment, but Jesus never disappoints. He will never fail us and never let us down. No matter what the weather, the future will always seem brighter if we put our trust in Jesus. Why not ask Him into your life and receive the greatest gift of all this coming Christmas time?
